Checked out Into the Blue friday. It stars Jessica Alba and Paul Walker as some divers who find a plane full of drugs along with some sunken treasure at the bottom of the ocean. They’re soon on the run from drug lords who want their stash back. Saw this for 1 reason.

Went to see Flightplan earlier in the week. It stars Jodie Foster as a woman who’s husband just died so she is flying with her young daughter back from Berlin to America to bury him. On the flight home she awakes from a nap to find her daughter missing, somehow. She then starts to panic and basically annoys everyone on the plane so the air marshall has to reprimand her. She insists that her daughter was with her though the flight manifest says different. The movie basically stunk from here on out. Foster’s character actually becomes annoying after a while of yeling “where’s my daighter!” There is a twist that explains everything but it is lackluster. I wish I had waited for it to come out on dvd. Don’t waste your time.

Watched this pretty dull comedy/romance tonight. it starrred Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet who fall for eachother but go years without telling the other one how they feel. There was some slightly funny parts, but not much. Amanda Peet is alright looking I guess. It was pretty predictable as well. If my jaw wasn’t wired and I wasn’t more bored than I have ever been in my entire life, I wouldn’t of watched it.

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I thought to myself - why? Stupid plot, stupid name, stupid idea. It revolves around 3 elite fighter pilots who fly these super jets. They are soon accompanied by a computer controlled jet, that of course, gets hit by lightnening and goes crazy. That’s basically says it all. But to tell the truth it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. This is probably because the scenes with the high-tech jets were pretty good. Jessica Biel is always good to look at in a bikini. Jamie Fox must have made this movie before he won an Oscar because he would have never agreed to it after. The plot takes an even more stupid turn with some rogue general in the second half and that didn’t help. The action scenes carried it to just below average.

The Fantastic Four sucked. If it wasn’t for Jessica Alba, I might of shut it off. The action scenes were few and far apart. The four sucked except for Alba. The villian was weak. The plot after they got their powers was non-existant. The special effects sucked. This is basically the epitomy of a bad summer movie.

Took a while to get around to seeing this, but thanks to bittorrents, I didn’t have to go to the theater. This is by far the best of all the Batman movies thus far. It tells of his origin and how he comes to have the skills and weapons that Batman always has. The cast is loaded with Christian Bale as Batman, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Katie Holmes, who was fine by the way. The batmobile is the greatest thing ever and there is plenty of action. Good summer flick.

This movie was fantastic. Wedding Crashers is obvioulsy about 2 guys who crash weddings (duh) to get chick. There are several hilarious scenes and they almost all involve Vince Vaughn. This was basically his movie to shine. Even the chick he hooks up with for most of the movie is hilarious, and hot by the way. The other crasher is Owen ’stupid nose’ Wilson. He does a good job as well and pursues the underreated Rachael Mcadams throughout the film. Someone told me before I saw it that it was ‘Old School’ funny. After seeing it I basically have to agree. Of course it got a little chick-flicky at the end but it’s helped out by a cameo by Will Ferrell. Go see this movie now.

Watched Crash last night and it was very good. The movie takes place in post 9/11 Los Angeles over 2 days and interweaves several storylines together starting with a car accident. Each character represents a different race and the stories all involve the prejudices and stereotypes present everywhere today. The cast was loaded with good actors and performances - Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Ryan Phillippe, Sandra Bullock, Brendon Fraser, Jennifer Esposito, Terrence Howard, Thandie Newtown and even Ludacris, who was suprisingly good, and there were more. There is plenty of heartbreak and violence. It is a very heavy movie that leaves you sad and angry at the sametime. There isn’t a happy ending or a resolution to any of the problems present everywhere, so don’t go in hoping to see either. One of the better movies I’ve seen this year, though it definetly is depressing at times.

warning : spoilers
I’ve been looking forward to seeing War of the Worlds ever since I laid my eyes upon the first trailer. It showed tons of the stuff I love - mass panic, mass destruction, fear of the unknown, all the good stuff the trailers promise us. Well, after seeing it, I’ll say some of that stuff was in it. The movie begins with a narration by Morgan Freeman, letting us know that humans aren’t alone, something we will soon find out. Ray (Tom Cruise) is a not-so-great dad who gets home from work having his 2 kids, 16 year old Robby and 10 year old Rachel (Dakota Fanning), for the weekend beause his ex-wife is going out of town to Boston. Basically, after a few minutes of displaying the weak parenting of Ray, the movie jumps right into. He follows the crowd to the middle of town where the lightning struck, and something under the ground begins to shake. Suddenly a huge alien tripod rises from the broken asphalt and begins zapping humans and destroying anything in it’s path. (You come to learn later that these tripods must have been underground for thousands of years, waiting for the moment to rise and bring destruction.) Anyway, Ray finds one of the lone working vehicles and takes off with his kids while the city behind him is getting wiped out. (probably the best scenes) The first 45 minutes of the movie are pretty frantic, but in a good way, there is a lot of destruction and we come to learn how massive the attack on our world is. Much of the plot focuses on how Ray is such a terrible father and doesn’t know his children at all, but becomes determined to protect them at all costs. There is a slow section which plays more like Close Encounters than Independance Day when the aliens are searching for hiding survivors. As any movie, there a stupid scenes, mainy involving Robby and a ridiculous decision. Also when they are driving what is seemingly the only working car in America, ridiculous. Dakata Fanning might have been the best part at times, especially fleeing the attacks when her portrayal of fear is very believable. Tim Robbins has a small part as a survivor who helps Ray, but he was almost annoying after a while and his character was totally pointless in the long run, as was is overly long scenes. I heard some not so good things about the ending and I now know why. Suddenly the aliens are dying and the explanation is left to another narration by Morgan Freeman. Weak. The most enjoyable part of the movie for me was the stretch from just before the aliens attacked to Ray and his family leaving the city. As most of Spielberg’s movies, they tend to focus on children, and for once you would like to see him make a huge action blockbuster like this without kids playing a major role. Doubt that will ever happen.
Revision : After thinking about this movie a bit the past few days, I am revising my review to a lower score. The opening of the movie is what influenced the higher score for me, but the more I think about it, the rest of the movie really lacked a plot or a solid conclusion. There actually weren’t any memorable moments after the initial attacks and the scenes that followed, such as the remnants of a plane crash, were lacking any real shock value or for that matter real siginificance.

A strange movie is what I describe Imaginary Heroes as. The Travis family begins to fall apart after the pride of the family, their oldest son, kills himself. Soon dark secrets are revealed while each remaining member of the family deals with the suicide in different ways. The father distances himself from everyone, the mother turns to pot and their other son experiments with drugs and longs to be elsewhere. It had a decent cast with Sigourney Weaver, Jeff Daniels and Emile Hirsch, but it was too long and not exactly a pleasant movie.
