Sideways →6.5/10
After hearing many good things about Sideways, I netflixed it and watched it last night. I was disappointed. I heard it was very funny, and there were a few hilarious parts, but overall I found it depressing. It’s about 2 middle aged college buddies - Jack and Miles, with not much to show for thier lives except disappointment, who go on a week long trip to the California wine country before one of the 2 gets married the following weekend. Jack, the groom to be, is a former actor who is looking to have one last fling before his wedding, while Miles is a depressed, anxiety ridden divorcee who can’t help but dwell on his failed marriage and stumbling writing career. Miles is also a wine enthusiast who is hoping to send his friend off in style by enjoying some good food, wine and golf, but he ultimately ends up questiong his career, relationships and future, while coming to realize Jack is still just there for the chance to get laid. Paul Giamatti is Miles and is good as the lead and Thomas Haden Church from Wings fame is Jack and he had some funny scenes. Sandra Oh and Virginia Madsen are the female characters. It wasn’t what I expected because I heard it was mostly a comedy, but it was much heavier than that and like I said, a bit depressing.
6.5/10

I agree, it was a bit dissapointing to me after all the hype surrounding it. I thought “Finding Neverland” and “Million Dollar Baby” which were also up for Best Picture were much better.

I saw it when it first came out, before all the hype. I found it a little depressing and a little funny, it was pretty good.

the part when they crash the car is pretty damn funny as was when they steal the wallet back. but it was very depressing at times.
